I have moved 6 times since college...to 3 new cities and states...and have just discovered something amazing: movers.
My sweet Dad always helps me move, but this time I wanted to save ourselves the trouble so I looked into hiring movers. I figured that, since I was only moving 175 miles away, and don't have that much stuff, it wouldn't be too expensive. Boy was I wrong! My estimate was $1800!! Too much for this schoolteacher to justify spending, that's for sure!
While looking on the UHaul website, I came across www.movinghelp.com
There are TONS of reviews of each moving company that they advertise (after you move, you get paid to write a review) and there are tons of local movers that you might never have otherwise known about. Win-win.
So....I hired local Atlanta movers at a cost of.....drum roll please.....
3 men for $50 an hour. They took 2 hours..... = a total of $100!!! (plus tip, of course)
Then, drove the UHaul with my Dad....
Hired 2 men in Birmingham for two hours = $130 (plus tip)
I saved over 2/3 what it would have been if I had hired movers, and all we had to do was drive the truck! It is well worth it in my book! If you know anyone who is moving in the near future, send them to this website....it will save them a lot of money and hassle!
Great to know! I moved a lot b/w college and marriage too. Never once hired movers. But, like you, couldn't have done it without good ole Dad. I am glad to know about this idea.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks Lauren...We are getting ready to move soon...and the idea of doing it ourselves with a 9 month old is a little frightening!
