I love the word "delight". When people say, "I would be delighted to...." it sounds so much more joyful and pleasant than "Okay." I want to use the word more.
I know that there are several references in the Bible about how God "delights" in us, but I have often felt insecure about this kind of attention from God. I always think...."Yes, he delights in me....but He also delights in like 6 billion other people who are also made in His image." I have been thinking about what makes "His people" stand out. Here is my thought....
-Prepare yourself for a very silly illustration-
I am dog sitting right now for 2 goldendoodles, Buddy and Lucy. I brought Oliver, my dog, with me as I will be here for ten days. I am a big animal lover, so these dogs plus my dog equals good times. I have noticed that, just as much as I LOVE their two dogs, I delight in mine. I am taking good care of all three, providing for all of their needs, etc....but when I look at Oliver, I can't help but really delight in him. I want him to play, have fun, and know that I love him. I really do delight in him. This is a silly, yet solidifying, example to me of how I see God's love for ALL of mankind and, specifically, for those who believe in Him.
What joy it is to see even a glimpse of delight in my heart- knowing that it is only a bit of what God has for me, and you who believe.
so true- one of my favorite verses (about delight) is Zeph 3:17- look it up, you'll love it too!
ReplyDeleteOk....so this is a stretch. but we are created in His image and also true that our dogs look like us. hmmmmm. Am I hairy, blond, have a long tongue, and have a cute wet nose? unfortunately, yes. Do you think when I sin it is the equivalent of Pollack eating grass and playdough(which he KNOWS is wrong) and then throwing up on our carpet? I think I could take the doggie illustration too far!
ReplyDeleteupdate...update...update...chant with me people. I like reading your words! Share some more. Or are things too busy right now?
