If I can do it, a monkey can.

I am FAR from "artsy" although I totally want to be. I can't draw, paint, sculpt....none of the "visual arts" are my bag. However, cooking seems to be my love because it can be my creative outlet. Ever since I moved to Memphis I have wanted to take a cake decorating class at a local cake supply shop. Being that graduate school sucked the life out of me, I am just now taking the class. I LOVE it.

I am always thinking that I just haven't found my big talent. What if Tiger Woods never tried to play golf? What if Celine Dion had never been given voice lessons? Would they even know the gifts they have? I always laugh about the fact that maybe I have just dabbled in all of the sports I am NOT gifted in, but one day I might just find "my thing". I might be awesome at water polo....I just need to try.

My Aunt Elizabeth is an incredible cake decorator and I have always wanted to follow in her footsteps. I wish we had lived closer as I was growing up so I could have learned to make culinary creations like hers a long time ago. I wanted to try this cake class to see if I would be unleashing a beast of a baker =)

When the class first began, I told the teachers to prepare themselves for me. That I might be their biggest challenge, in the sense that I am not artistic. They are the most patient and kind teachers....I have already surprised myself! (I take no credit....I fully give the praise to my teachers!)

Here are a few pictures of my first two cakes.

  2. Wow! What a great idea for a class! You've inspired me. I always knew your love of cupcakes but now you moved on to even bigger and better confections!
    Keep the pictures coming!!
