I must admit that I am an avid watcher of "The Bachelor". I love the drama, the exaggerated personalities and, honestly, love that I am not a part of the show. Thankful that I don't live like those girls vying for the attention of a guy they might not even like once they 'win" him.
Last week, while tuning in with my Monday night "Bachelor" girls group, we erupted into laughter when one contestant answered the most critical question asked. The Bachelor asked her, "What are the most important things I ought to know about you?" Her reply? "Ok...um....I have always been the really pretty, sporty girl who likes clothes. OH! And, I like bears."
WHAT!?!?!? I mean....WHAT!?!?
THOSE are the most important things for your "potential husband" to know about you? In case of emergency....she likes bears? In times of trouble, she is really sporty? Wow.
It really made me think about how I might answer that question and how I might like to "be known" if given the opportunity to answer, in one sentence, what were the MOST important things about me. Those are the things that we want people to notice about us....
I know that, in this life, we all long to be known. We long to be noticed and "seen".
In the book of Genesis, a woman named Hagar is a runaway and is in distress. The Lord shows up and lets her know that she will be provided for. Her first response is in Genesis 16:13, after the Lord appears to her. She says, "You are the God who sees me."
We all long to "be seen" and "matter". Let us remember that it is the God of the Universe who "sees us" no matter what our situation and trial.
